Bollywood Stars Reacted With Sadness and Anguish on Terrorist Attack on Mumbai

The heinous act of terrorism that is termed biggest ever terrorist act on India in Mumbai which took nearly life of 200 people has also disturbed bollywood stars too. Below are some of the comments as made by bollywood stars as appeared on leading Indian Daily, The Hindu:

Hema Malini said, “I think the Mumbai police rose to the occasion. It is very sad that we lost some brave officers. Hats off to the army, for rescuing people, it’s really sad that Mumbai has become so unsafe. I wait with my heart in my mouth until Esha and Ahana are home. We desperately need more security.”

Raveena Tandon said, “We were in a restaurant in south Mumbai having dinner with friends when we started getting calls to leave immediately. We still waited. But then a policeman called and advised us to go home. We headed home in groups and stayed on the phone till each of us reached safely. It’s time for the corrupt politicians to wake up. Stop thinking of your vote banks and think of what’s happening to the country.”

Bipasha Basu said, “It’s shocking and scary. We’re going through a very disturbing and inhuman phase. On Wednesday night, I travelled on the highway two minutes after the Vile Parle blast. There was mayhem on the roads. John’s (John Abraham) aunt, who works at the Taj (Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotels), reached home at 7 a.m. Thursday. I wonder where and when it will end.”

Shabana Azmi Said,“I was on the phone with a friend in London when she asked me to switch on the TV. It’s a diabolic war waged on our city and country. This isn’t the time to place blame. We need to maintain peace and communal harmony and cooperate with the police. Our condolences to police officers who sacrificed their lives. Terrorism should be struck down with an iron hand.”

Shilpa Shetty Said, “I had an early morning shoot Thursday so I went to sleep early. I had no clue about what happened in my city until someone called from London to ask if I was alright. That’s when I switched on the TV and quickly made calls to friends who live in town. It makes me sad and angry that Mumbai residents are soft targets for such attacks. It’s an unsettling feeling, especially since we seem not equipped to deal with it. This is an open war against humanity.”

Arshad Warsi: I was on my way back from Panchgani Wednesday night. The explosion at Vile Parle happened 15-20 minutes after I passed by that area. I trust the police and army. They’ll sort it out. Nothing can stop Mumbai residents from getting back to normal. But we need to exercise more caution.

Iqbal Khan: “Mujahideen is such a sure and strong word. I’m sure they don’t even know the meaning.”

Vishal Bhardwaj & Shahid Kapoor stall ‘Kaminay’ shoot

The terrorist attack in Mumbai was a heart-stirring event for the nation and its fatal effects have been felt in every field, including the film industry. Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Kaminay’ shoot had to be cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday night because of the serial blasts. The director says, “We were shooting a traffic jam scene for Kaminey at Horniman Circle, which is a couple of minutes away from Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).
We crossed CST at 9.45 pm and headed for the circle. While the men were putting up the lights, we heard firing and explosions close by. We decided to cancel the shoot immediately around 10.30 pm and head home.”
Vishal also reported that the lead actor of the film, Shahid Kapoor, had reached the shoot by then. “Shahid left a little ahead of me. It was a war-like situation on the streets of Mumbai. As we reached Marine Drive there were lots of police vehicles with guns pointed at us. It was terrifying!” As Vishal and Shahid crossed Marine Drive and Girgaum Chowpatty they heard firing behind them. Vishal says, “I could feel something was going to happen at Marine Drive. Later, when I reached home, I heard a couple of terrorists got killed at Girgaum. Again we got saved…”
Vishal reached home around 2 am. “There were policemen with guns everywhere. It was scary! I have seen check- posts but not police aiming guns at all the cars. We have shot such scenes in films but watching it live is something else altogether. At one check naka, they stopped my car and started asking all sorts of questions.
I had to take out my ID card and one of the police officers recognised me and let me go,” Vishal shudders with relief. “We had a unit of almost 300 people and 50 cars as it was a traffic jam sequence with lots of cars and everyone was packed off home. Fortunately, each and every unit member reached home safely. My wife Rekha was to join us on the shoot but had to cancel her plans. We are all lucky that we got saved,” he recalls grimly.
